本付録は規範的。

これらの DTD と実体セットは本仕様書の規範的部分を構成する。 XML 宣言と SGML オープンカタログと一緒になった 完全な DTD ファイルのセットは、本仕様書の zip ファイルgzip'd tar ファイル に含まれている。使える DTD のローカル・コピーを探しているユーザは、以下で参照されている特定の DTD よりも、アーカイブをダウンロードして使うべきである。

A.1. 文書型定義 (Document Type Definitions)

これらの DTD は HTML 4 DTD の近似である。W3C は、内容の妥当性検証時には、定義された SYSTEM 識別子で、これらの DTD の権威のあるバージョンを使うように勧告する。これらの DTD をローカルに使う必要があれば、このバージョン のアーカイブの一つをダウンロードすべきである。完全を期するために、DTD の規範的バージョンをここに含めておく:
